Workshop - Exploring the journey of the cocoa bean – Tackling traceability challenges across the chain

  • Cacaolab BV Skaldenstraat 121 building A4 9042 Gent Belgium (map)

Traceability plays a crucial role in the cocoa and chocolate sector and is an essential part of efforts to ensure transparency and sustainability in this industry. This involves being able to track the origin and production process of cocoa, from the farm to the final chocolate product. The new EU Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) aims to tackle deforestation worldwide, but poses many challenges for all actors throughout the entire chain.

During the interactive workshop, the importance of traceability within the cocoa and chocolate sector will initially be explained and an overview of the EUDR will be provided. In addition, technological solutions based on blockchain are examined. Representatives from the entire chain will then speak in a panel discussion, highlighting the challenges within the sector and possible solutions. Finally, the panel members and participants will be split in smaller groups during the break-out sessions, in which certain aspects of traceability can be discussed in more depth. We conclude with a networking reception. In short, an afternoon you should not miss! Subscribe now.
